For a few years, I’ve been using this\u00a0coconut oil recipe<\/a>\u00a0almost exclusively. I’ve added clay to color holiday soaps, but beyond that we’ve got the same basic pure white soap.\u00a0I get 35 pound pails of coconut oil from a local distributor, Bulk Apothecary<\/a>, and avoid shipping fees. You can make a\u00a0lot<\/em> of soap with 35 pounds of coconut oil (a year supply for us, plus a bunch to give away).<\/p>\n

I’ve wanted to make a pumice soap with orange essential oil for cleaning greasy hands (like Fast Orange) for some time. Decided to make a couple other ‘special’ batches of soap too.<\/p>\n

A skincare soap with tea tree oil using:<\/p>\n

33\u00a0oz coconut oil
\n4.8\u00a0oz lye
\n9.6\u00a0oz water
\n2\u00a0oz tea tree oil<\/p>\n

A colorful lavender scented soap with the same coconut oil recipe:<\/p>\n

33 oz coconut oil
\n4.8 oz lye
\n9.6 oz water
\n1.3 oz lavender essential oil
\n.6 oz bergamot essential oil
\n2 t purple Brazilian clay<\/a><\/p>\n

A ‘mechanic’ soap with pumice and orange essential oil for cleaning greasy hands. The soap will be 5% superfat instead of the normal 30% to aid in cutting greases:<\/p>\n

33 oz coconut oil
\n5.74 oz lye
\n12.5 oz water
\n2\u00a0oz bitter orange essential oil
\n8 T pumice<\/p>\n
