There are a lot of tools we use at work that are silly\noverkill in your personal life \u2013 I don\u2019t want to open a Remedy ticket for every\nsqueaky hinge! But some of our tools are quite helpful away from work too \u2013 making\nflyers in Word or using Excel to keep track of the softball league standings. \u201cIs\nTeams useful in my personal life\u201d seems like a purely hypothetical question \u2013\nit\u2019s not like I can invite the rest of the Parent Teacher Organization to join\nus here in Teams (and even if I could, that\u2019s hardly an appropriate use of\ncompany resources!). But did you know Microsoft offers a free version of Teams?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signing up for a free account, you don\u2019t get access to all <\/em>of the Teams features we\u2019ve got here\n\u2013 you cannot schedule<\/a>\nmeetings, record\nmeetings<\/a>, there isn\u2019t a Planner board, you don\u2019t have access to the full\nsuite of Office 365 applications. But you do<\/em>\nhave a Teams space, can use the integrated apps and connectors, have some file\nstorage space, have persistent chats in channels, and can even have group\naudio\/video calls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To sign up for a free Teams account, visit https:\/\/products.office.com\/en-us\/microsoft-teams\/free<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t use your company e-mail address to sign up \u2013 this will\nneed to be your personal address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don\u2019t already have a Microsoft account associated\nwith the e-mail address, you\u2019ll be asked to create a new Microsoft account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise you\u2019ll be asked to sign in to your Microsoft\naccount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supply your name, organization name, and country of origin.\nRead the terms of use and privacy statement. Assuming your use complies with\nthe terms of use and the privacy policy is acceptable, click \u201cNext\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will take a few minutes for everything to be set up. Once\nyour personal Teams organization is built, you can invite others to join. Click\non your avatar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and select \u201cManage\norg\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click \u201cInvite others to your org\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And enter their e-mail addresses<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will get an e-mail message inviting them to join your\nTeams org. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019re ready to start using Teams \u2013 add tabs to websites\nyour group commonly uses, set up connectors, create new channels, chat, video\ncalls, share files. You can even add new Teams to your organization. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone added to your org is automatically able to access\nthe default Teams space (the one with the name of your org). Teams spaces you<\/em> create can be private or public,\njust like at work \u2013 but you can also select \u201cOrg-wide\u201d which automatically\njoins any newly-added individuals to the Teams space. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
