Or you\u2019rewriting documentation. There are lots of reasons you need a picture of your computer screen. You can hit the \u201cPrint Screen\u201d button on your keyboard (even hold <em>Alt<\/em> and hit print-screen to isolate the image to the active window). But did you know Microsoft Office programs can do that for you? On the ribbon bar, select \u201cInsert\u201d and locate \u201cScreenshot\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"773\" height=\"357\" src=\"http:\/\/lisa.rushworth.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot01.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot01.png 773w, https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot01-300x139.png 300w, https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot01-768x355.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on one of the \u201cAvailable Windows\u201d, and an image of the window will be inserted into your Word document, Excel spreadsheet, Outlook e-mail, or PowerPoint presentation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the \u201cScreen Clipping\u201dselection to grab <em>part<\/em> of a window. Minimize all of your Windows. Bring up the Window of which you want an image. Now bring up the Office document into which you want the image inserted. Use Insert => Screenprint => Screen Clipping, and wait a minute. Your Office document will be minimized, your screen will get washed out, and you\u2019ll have a cross-hair instead of a mouse pointer. Click and drag to draw a rectangle around something. When you release the mouse, whatever is in that rectangle will be pasted into your Office document. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"598\" height=\"538\" src=\"http:\/\/lisa.rushworth.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot02.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot02.png 598w, https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Office-InsertScreenshot02-300x270.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait \u2013 what about those rectangles I use to highlight the image? From the ribbon bar, select \u201cInsert\u201dand \u201cShapes\u201d. I took a University course where debugging screen shots had to have the \u201cimportant bit\u201d highlighted with a red square \u2013 that stuck with me. You\u2019ve got an array of shapes and colours available. Pick one. Draw the shape over your image \u2013 yes, it looks like the shape <em>covers\u00a0<\/em>the important part. Draw it anyway. While the shape is still selected, click \u201cFormat\u201d in the ribbon bar. There are filters that just don\u2019t exist in the Office image editors \u2013 sometimes I want to selectively blur screen text so my work conversations are not included in documentation. Sometimes I want to create a composite image.
