{"id":1360,"date":"2017-05-16T12:38:07","date_gmt":"2017-05-16T17:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lisa.rushworth.us\/?p=1360"},"modified":"2020-08-01T12:31:41","modified_gmt":"2020-08-01T17:31:41","slug":"homemade-chicken-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rushworth.us\/lisa\/?p=1360","title":{"rendered":"Chicken Food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve found a few good ideas for things chickens will feed themselves &#8212; include the compost area in the chicken pen, the chickens will turn the compost for you, eat fresh veggie scraps, and eat bugs they find.<\/p>\n<p>Put a board or rubber mat down on the ground &#8211; let it sit there for a day or two, and a bunch of bugs will move in under it. Flip the board\/mat into a new location &amp; the chickens will go after the bugs that have been uncovered.<\/p>\n<p>I also plan to grow a &#8220;chicken garden&#8221; in their coop &#8212; buckwheat, millet, flax, red clover, and forage peas.
